(My question is refering to your crack repair). Are you talking about the vinyl caulk that is used to patch small nail holes in plaster that hardens and can't be sanded? Is this your first application, then you go over that with dry wall mud? If this is true, do you apply the mud over it after it hardens or prior?

I am referring to the water-based caulk used for sealing gaps around windows. It comes in a tube that fits into a caulk gun. They key here is to get something water-based, so you can easily clean up the excess.
